Types of Activities:
- Physical: Our physical activities incorporate both gross and fine motor skills and include Exercise, Propsncise, Basketball, Ring Toss, Bowling, Dancercise, Beat the Timer, Puzzles and Yoga.
- Cognitive: Our cognitive activities promote reminiscing, socializing and cognitive thinking and include Yesterdays, Discussion Groups, Trivia, Word Games, You Be the Judge and “The Price is Right.”
- Creative: Explores different expressive arts allowing residents to watch, learn and also participate and include A Drumming Circle, Sacred Dance, Fine Arts, Music, Poetry, Dance and Art Shows.
- Educational: A variety of programs encourage residents to educate themselves covering topics such as history, art, hand washing effectively, diabetes, live butterfly pavilion, day long Activity Fair and culture.
- Intergenerational: People of all ages from preschool, elementary, high school, college and retirees involve our residents is an assortment of intergenerational activities including demonstrations, Easter Egg hunts, Hunting for “The Gold Coins,” Singing and Dancing
- Community Involvement: Outings are scheduled regularly and include The Cherry Blossom Festival, The Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree, HighSoc Tea House, Liberty State Park, Bowling, Restaurants, The Library and Puccini’s. Residents can be involved in fundraising efforts in house and out including a pizza party fundraiser for The Nurturing Place and manning a bake sale.
- Social: Opportunities to socialize include Coffee, Tea and Ice Cream Socials, Entertainment, Outside Sensory Garden, Men and Women Clubs and Parties.
- Religious: To meet individual spiritual needs some of our activities include prayers, church, rosary, Bible study and trivia and pastoral visits.
- Seasonal: Holiday and seasonal activities are incorporated including gardening, local holiday lights bus tour, Cherry Blossom Festival, outdoor BBQs, outside carnival, egg decorating, holiday cookie bake and holiday parties.
- Entertainment: Any excuse to have a party is welcome. Our diverse entertainment covers a variety of cultures and media including Irish Step Dancers, Pianist, Jazz Sax, Oktoberfest accordion player, cabaret, sacred dance, country western singer/dancer, theater, Hawaiian dancing, Philipino dancing, International Music and more.
- Sensory: A variety of sensory activities awakens the senses outwardly with a show of a smile, a blink or a clap of the hands and inwardly with the slowing or speeding up of breathing. Aromatherapy, Music, hand massage, pictures and mobiles and comfort, cultural or specialized foods are some examples of our sensory activities.
- Specialized: We strive to offer a holistic and diverse approach to organized activities. Some of our specialized programs include:
- Movercise, a movement program to help reduce the risk of pressure ulcers.
- The Spa, a calming and relaxing experience that includes tuning forks, back hand massage, warm towel hand massage and manicure, aromatherapy, healthy snacks, healing music, a meditative visual show and pampering parting gift.
- Rhythm Connection, a healing drum circle in which residents use rhythm and drumming
- Armotherapy, pure essential oils are used at different times to enhance different effects including relaxation, rejuvenation, joy, reduction of pain, energy and healthy breathing.
- Strolling Musicians, musical room visits for bedbound and for those who choose to stay in their room.
